Flooding in Muskoka

Flooding in Muskoka

Flooding in Muskoka… This is a hot topic! We are always extremely cognizant of water levels as a builder on the lake. Docks don’t just magically arrive at the right height. Summer or winter – it is a finite measurement.

One of the allures of Muskoka has always had water level stability. Muskoka is one of the few places on the planet that have had fixed docks and boathouses for over a century. The Muskoka Watershed has complexities, but it was managed quite well until the plans changed in 2008.

The provincial government awarded a private (for profit) company some ultimate form of control of our water with the Bala Falls hydro dam. In addition, the government is trying to normalize flooding in Muskoka. They are claiming a host of scenarios that are causing these multiple 100 year floods.
